Imaging News, Articles and Reviews

We have changed around a few things to make orders move even quicker.  If you want something in a hurry all you have to do is pay with credit card and select “warehouse pickup”.  You will then automatically receive pickup instructions via email and your order will be ready in a couple of hours (providing everything is in stock).

If you live outside Melbourne it is good to know that by far the quickest way of getting your order is to pay with credit card. If you order before 3pm your order will be dispatched on the same day and should arrive in Sydney by the next day.

So now there is no need to wait for your brand new document scanner or large format printer.

We all love something for nothing and that’s exactly what Canon are offering with their free ink promotion on the IPF-650, IPF-655, IPF-750 and IPF-755 large format printers. Check the canon flyer for more details.

canon-vixia-hfs11Canon’s New Flagship Video Camera

So the Canon  HF S11 video camera has been announced in the USA. With 64GB on-board memory it can record HD footage for up to 24 hours.  Here is more info here, here and here.

Talking printer… give me a break

It looks like a kids radio and can complain when it is out of ink.  Everyone else is really excited about it but we think it is just silly… more news from the sheep here, here, here and not here. Ok… so there are other printers in the new line up and the fix-it feature does sound quite handy though.

Everyone said it would happen eventually: cameras designed to take better images not create bigger files. The announcement of the 10MP Canon G11 with a lower resolution sensor that it’s predecessor (the Canon G10) means that it might have finally happened. Nikon probably started the ball rolling when it created the d700 with it’s incredibly low noise 12MP sensor.   Now it is just up to consumers to catch on… more info at crunch gear.

Along with the G11 Canon have also announced a few touch screen powershots… more info hear, hear, hear and hear.

Canon EOS 7D. Real or Fake?

A few hours ago an image of the Canon 7d digital SLR was posted on dpReview. This is following a post on Canon Rumors reporting that the camera has been added to Best Buy’s product database.

There is plenty of speculation about where the 7d will fit in Canon’s line-up.  Best Buy’s price gives no clues as it is exactly the same as the 5d II body. The rumoured kit version includes Canon’s relativity basic 28-135mm lens which is hardly suited to a camera costing thousands. All this speculation is putting my BS meter into overdrive!

AstroScope Night Vision for Canon dSLRsGizmag report on a night vision adapter for Nikon and Canon digital SLRs that amplifies light by an incredible 8-10 stops.  They also have a great article on dSLR lenses.

TrustedReviews check out the Canon Ixus 110 IS. It gets thumbs up for it’s image quality, zoom range (nice and wide), noise handling, image stabilisation and build quality. MacWorld also look at the Canon Digital IXUS 980 IS (know as the SD990 in the USA).

The Canon Selphy ES3 has been awarded the editor’s choice award over at cnet.

We are currently bundling the very popular Canon Ixus 80 IS (Silver) with a free case and 4gb memory card.  If you are looking at getting a new point and shoot camera this is definitely one to consider.

Ok… so what do you do if your PC printer doesn’t want to talk to your brand new MacBook Pro?  Before you throw it out the window and buy a Mac compatible printer from us have a look at this article. While we are on the topic the Konica Minolta 1690 has been put through it’s paces over at MacWorld.

Digital Cameras

Monster SD cards (SDXC) announced:  Toshiba has announced plans to be the first to ship the new SDXC memory cards starting with capacities of 64gb from Q2 2010.  More info info on CNET.

Digital Photography School have some tips on night photography with a digital SLR.  If you have a spare $22k (USD) you could consider getting one of these.  If you already have a Canon 50d digital SLR Photography Bay have word of a firmware update to correct magenta casts in certain conditions.  The very capable Canon PowerShot SX200 IS has been reviewed by Macworld and it seems they are quite smitten. Oh and there is another review of it here too.

Document Scanners

Life hacker have a quick guide to going paperless. All fairly common sense and orientated towards US readers but still worth a look. Imaging Resource report that the Epson V500 document scanner has been announced.  Maybe just the thing for a very small office or home office.

On a lighter note check out Gizmodo’s retro gadgets.

Printers and Multifunctions

The Epson PX650 has been announced. Lots of coverage  here, here and here.  Trying to call a printer high definition is a bit ridiculous but the promise of better than lab quality prints sounds appealing.  Also there is a video review of the Epson Stylus NX515 on Cnet.
